Paralimni–Deryneia: the municipal reform of 2024
Paralimni–Deryneia belongs to the modern administrative history of the Famagusta region. The municipality dates from the local government reform of 2024; that date describes the authority, rather than the origins of its settlements.

What changed
The municipality’s official account identifies four components: the former municipalities of Paralimni and Deryneia and the communities of Frenaros and Acheritou. They came together under the new municipality in 2024.
Finding the right local information
The municipal website brings together services and contacts with news, events and tourist, diving and archaeological guides. It is a useful starting point when following up the history of a particular locality.
Reading the names carefully
For a visitor, the distinction between settlement, municipality and district matters. Treat the municipality’s formation as one layer of a longer history, rather than the founding date of every place it serves. This article concerns Paralimni–Deryneia; it does not describe the creation of the walled city of Famagusta.
Before exploring
Start with the locality that interests you, then follow the relevant municipal information. An administrative name alone is not a walking route or evidence that a historical building is open. Check the individual place before planning a visit.
